Piyali has a Master's in Interaction Design from TU Delft and a Bachelor's degree in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a multidisciplinary designer, comfortable designing across mediums, with a research by design practice.
For Piyali beautiful design is a welcome byproduct of meaningful design but it's not what she strives for. Instead she is interested in creating experiences to make people question their current realities and evaluate whether we are headed towards a desirable future. Her work reflects her obsession with food, health and gut microbes. Her thesis was on display at the Cube Design Museum in the Netherlands. During the day she is a Senior UX Researcher at One Drop. She is also the co-founder of Iskra, a speculative workshop series, was a Resident at NEW INC. from 2019-2020 and is a member of the SciFutures Writers Panel.
